Southsea Coastal Scheme is the name of the long-term project to improve the coastline in Portsmouth and to prevent flooding. The current flood defences are coming to the end of their lifespan, which increases the risk of flooding in Southsea. The aim is to create new defences that embrace everything that is loved about the seafront.
As the scheme is a collaboration between Portsmouth City Council, Balfour Beatty, Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership, Ramboll, Wessex archaeology, ABP mer, Environment Agency and Arup, it was decided that the project needed it’s own identity so that people can stay better informed about the progress.
The logo I created for the scheme incorporates the idea of flood defences in its typeface by elongating the “h” in Southsea. It protects against the waves coming from the sea. The brand incorporates blue colours and an accent of yellow to make it really stand out and be recognisable.
