A collaborative effort with the
Nordic Development Fund. The purpose of this animation is to explain what NDF is in a nutshell to people who have never heard about them, as well as to stakeholders who might have worked with them, but aren't entirely sure about what it is that NDF does as a whole. The animation explains what the organisation does in a general level, and gives practical examples of what happens on the ground.
Let me tell you, it is worth investing the time and effort in the beginning to work out any kinks, problems or idea clashes where it's still easy and quick to do amends. This way when you get to the bulk of the project -which is the actual animating time- you can expect it to go as smooth as a knife into butter (Finnish idiom, anyone?).
I worked with NDF's brilliant communications team and a lot of other people from inside the organisation to workshop ideas for the video.
Insights from that workshop were then collated, condensed and put into a script form where we tell a story of what NDF is. Many iterations were made until we got to the final script.
Once the script was approved, I moved onto designing a style for the animation, and with that style in mind, I drew up a visual storyboard with pen and paper. Halfway, we ended up scrapping over half of the storyboard, but the new visuals ended up making the story much more compelling and relevant.
There was a lot of back and forth in the initial stages and when we got to the actual animation, apart from some timing adjustments with the voice over, I got one change request! I call that a success.
