The needs of Portsmouth are changing, so how it designs and delivers services must change too. People from local voluntary, community and social enterprise services (VCSE) in the city, Portsmouth City Council and NHS Portsmouth Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are committed to working together, and this is where HIVE Portsmouth comes in. HIVE is the home of the central point of contact for services and community connection in the city. HIVE Portsmouth aims to become the home of social action and enterprise where people can come with ideas and be supported to grow
them. It will also be an organisational hub for those in the VCSE who are committed to the vision and culture of HIVE Portsmouth.
This massive undertaking was in need of branding and they asked the design team to come up with concepts. My pitch ended up being the chosen one and it represents everything HIVE stands for: community, commitment, centrality and cooperation.
The logo and concept themselves stem from the idea of a beehive, a hub where everyone works together towards a common goal. The logo is built of little honeycombs that buzz away and come together, representing the individual services that operate independently, but have come together to provide a more seamless service for the people of Portsmouth.
The brand elements for this concept are hand drawn illustrations of the central themes and hubs around it as well as natural elements such as birds, bees and flowers. These really extend the message of an ecosystem that can’t function without its elements.
